Marsilea minuta - An Easy Carpeting Plant for Natural Aquascapes

Marsilea minuta is a slow-growing foreground carpeting plant with small, clover-shaped leaves, making it a favourite for natural aquascaping layouts. Its appearance is similar to Glossostigma or Hydrocotyle, but it's easier to maintain and perfect for low-tech or shrimp tanks.

It spreads via runners and creates a soft, meadow-like carpet, staying compact under medium to high light. While CO₂ injection improves spread and leaf size, Marsilea minuta is one of the few carpeting plants that can thrive without CO₂ in low-energy setups.

Ideal for Iwagumi, Nature-style, or Dutch aquascapes, it can be planted in small clumps across the foreground. Over time, it fills in to form a rich green mat. Its gentle look and hardiness also make it well-suited for nano tanks.

This plant prefers fine-grained substrate and benefits from root tabs or enriched soil.

Key Benefits

  • Easy Carpeting Plant: Thrives in low-tech and high-tech setups.
