Hygrophila difformis
Hygrophila difformis, also known as Water Wisteria, is a versatile and fast-growing stem plant ideal for beginners and experienced aquascapers alike. With its finely feathered leaves and vibrant green colour, this plant creates a lush, jungle-like effect in tropical freshwater aquariums.
A classic background plant, it can also be used midground in larger aquariums or floated at the surface for fry or shrimp cover. Water Wisteria thrives in a wide range of conditions, tolerating low light but showing its best colour and form with medium to high lighting and CO₂ supplementation.
Hygrophila difformis is excellent for natural nutrient export, absorbing nitrates quickly-making it a favourite in low-tech aquariums and new tank setups to prevent algae outbreaks.
