Cryptocoryne bullosa is a rare and striking Cryptocoryne species from Borneo, renowned for its brown to reddish-brown, hammered leaves with a unique textured appearance. This characteristic makes it an eye-catching choice for naturalistic aquascapes and biotope setups.

Growing to a moderate height of 10-20 cm, Cryptocoryne bullosa is ideal for midground placement where its broad, textured leaves add depth and contrast. It thrives in low to medium light conditions and does not require CO₂ injection, although CO₂ promotes healthier growth and deeper coloration.

Like other crypts, it prefers stable conditions and benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate to support its robust root system. A period of melting upon introduction is normal as it adapts to new water parameters.

Does Cryptocoryne bullosa need CO₂?
CO₂ is not required but improves growth rate and enhances its reddish-brown coloration.

Why do the leaves melt after planting?
Crypts often melt when adapting to new water conditions but will regrow once established.
